SHOW NOTES FOR EPISODE 155

Introduction of the GeoSnippits Reboot Podcast Patch Fundraiser.
How It Works:
We need at least $2100 for the iMac computer we want to get to replace our old PC.
We are providing our brand new GSRP Glow in the dark and trackable patch with a minimal donation of $8.00USD. This includes shipping.
You can make any donation for our fundraiser by going to https://www.gofundme.com/gsrpcomputer
There you give the amount you wish to donate
Make sure your email address is correct – and we will contact you for your address.
In the comments section put in how many patches you want for that donation and any other comments you would like to include.
Again we hope you enjoy this patch as much as we do. Thank you for your contributions and a special thanks to CoinsAndPins.com for their amazing work with this project.

SHOW NOTES

Headhardhat – Periscope
https://www.periscope.tv/headhardhat

If you follow these four key point you are on your way to a great geocache hide.

First And Foremost – Getting Permission
Always get permission from the landowner, not just some middle ground associate.

Be creative, do your research. Find the perfect spot and not just another spot to hide a geocache

Have a geocache that can withstand the elements, time and usage.

Make your geocache Favorite Point Worthy! Think about the entire geocaching experience you are trying to bring to the game. Do you want to make a laugh or a smile? Do you want to be thought provoking? Do you want to bring culture or history? So many possibilities, don’t throw it away on just being another smiley.

– Common Places To Hide A Geocache
– Urban: Smaller, better hidden in plain sight, more camouflage
– Grate Hides
– Statue Hides
– Skirt or Lamp Post Hides
– Sign Hides
– Nut and Bolt Hides
– Magnetic Key Hides
– Wall hides

– Wooded: Larger, more creative types of hides, hidden inside something
– Bushes
– Logs
– Trees
– Rocks
– Ammo Boxes
– Grape vines
– Bird Houses

– Uncommon or Extreme Places
– Handmade or Custom geocaches
– Under water
– Island
– Sides of Mountains
– Train Bridges
– Towers
– Abandoned Buildings
– Extreme Terrains
– Dessert
– Arctic
– Long Trails in Mountains

Determining Difficulty and Terrain
One of the best ways to determine what the Diff and Terrain is for your cache is to use the Geocaching Rating System.
Six questions asked
https://www.geocaching.com/hide/rate.aspx

– Thinking of the geocaching finder
When placing a geocacher always consider the person finding the geocache. How much exposure are you putting them in. In other words to muggles, physical peril, uncomfortable situations, etc. Imagine yourself going for the geocache you are about to hide and put yourself in their shoes. After considering it, would it cause more grief than it’s worth to find it? If the answer is no then maybe it is not a good place to hide the geocache in the first place.

Geocache Containers
Waterproof not just water resistant
Heavy Duty containers always wins out
Camouflage – Hide it like no one can find it

Bad Things To NOT Do:
Publishing a geocache before placing it!
Hiding geocaches in private landscaping forcing geocachers to search there.
Start with this: Meaningless geocache hides with no value to the find/Lousy geocache at the end of a puzzle/Multi cache. (like a lamp skirt after a 4 stage multi or a really hard puzzle cache).
Bad woodsy hides. I am SO sick of trying to find a bison in the woods. Seriously. You’re missing the point. Don’t hide a bison when there is room for a Buick.
Rate caches accordingly. A film canister is NOT a small.
Throwdowns can fit in this section (SAI)
