File this one under “Things that drives one batty”. One of the things I really like about Vista is the ability to open any installed application without having to drill through a ton of menu selections. By simply pressing the Windows key I can start typing the name of the application and usually within 3 or 4 keystrokes I can hit enter and run the application. Talk about a time saver! This is possible because of Vista’s powerful indexing service. It’s also easy to find documents as well as multimedia files. It’s a tremendous tool.

There is a downside, however, and it gets me every time I try and bring up the calculator (thus the image). I’ve been on XP so long that it’s in my muscle memory to hit Windows Key+R to get the Run dialog box to come up and then type ‘calc’ in the field. Nearly every time I run the calculator this happens to me. The same thing happens when I want to bring up the command prompt. Anything I did that was previously associated with the Run box trips me up. I guess old habits die hard.
